I drive what my teenagers affectionately call "an old man car". A 2001 Chrysler Concorde. It would be a good car for field service because it has 4 doors. It has an exceptionally large trunk area. A real "babe magnet" car.

What do you drive and why?
by Escargot inwell, a post on the good ol days got me thinking about the vehicles people drive and why.
in the jws, a vehicle had to be appropriate for service, four doors, holding at least five.
i remember back in 1978 i bought an mgb and the brothers had a fit (hehe), i was selfish, etc.,.

Does anyone still have their NWT ?
by WildHorses ini was speaking with a man the other night on yahoo and he gave me a few verses to compare.. a while back i gave my copy of the nwt to a friend who came in contact with jw's quit often and wanted to used it to compare scriptures.
anyway, could someone please look up these scriptures and compare them to the nwt and post the differences?
i was told that the nwt omits parts of these verses.. matthew 18:11 luke 4:8 john 8:9 acts 8:37/23.9 romans 13:9. thanks in advance.. "i don't want someone in my life i can live with, i want someone in my life i can't live without.

My 15 year old son asked me not long ago if the JW's believed in the Bible. I said, "they have their own Bible." His response was, "what's it called, The Bible For Dummies?"
I thought that was very perceptive of him.

I'm a useless Apostate :(
by NewbieGirl ini've been lurking here for a while now, posted a handful of times, but this board has had a profound effect on me.. i have just finished reading coc which i would never have even heard of if it wasn't for this board.. anyway, in light of everything i have learned here, i have been waiting expectantly for the next unsuspecting jw's to knock on my door, just so i can er, 'enlighten' them.. about 15 minutes ago, just that happened.
i answered a knock on my door to be confronted by two jw's.
one of them i remembered vaguely from a neighboring cong, and the other was someone i knew pretty well from my old cong.. so what did i do?

NewbieGirl:
Don't feel inadequate on this because as others have mentioned, they would not have listened to anything you said. I recall that in going door to door, my goal was to be able to talk, not listen.
I even remember, one time while pioneering, calling on one young man and his wife who allowed me to give my doorstep rant and then from the Bible began to show me point by point why what I told them could not be the truth. Notwithstanding whether one believes the Bible itself to be the truth, he made a solid argument that Witness doctrine was not. The couple were very kind and invited me to come back again. I remember on returning to the car group how even though I had been outgunned, I basically trashed that nice couple to the others in my group. I never returned. For that I will always be ashamed. In retrospect, if I had examined what they told me, it might have changed my life in a positive way. But I will never know.

Ex-Witnesses in Oregon?
by CatholicGuy ini voluntarily disassociated from the jws in 1980. i was actively involved in ministry to jws and ex-jws for the next 10 years.
the past 10 years or so i've moved on with my life and lost touch with much of what was happening with the watch tower society and ex-witnesses.
of course, growing up in the witnesses leaves its imprint on you.

I'm Screwed Up, You're Screwed Up
by Farkel ini have not followed very many threads of late, so if someone has already made the same observations i'm about to make, i apologize for my redundancy.. .
i admit it: i'm part of a highly secretive, highly elite group.
(we have to drink two quarts of fresh yak blood and get a tattoo of a pentagram on our butts as part of of the initiation.

I'm curious if anyone from Oregon knows of a JW or former JW by the name of Alan Priller. I worked on a printing press with him at Beth Hell in the early 70's. I think he was from Salem, Oregon but married a girl from Texas.

My Take On Anonimity.
by Englishman inthis is just a few thoughts that i have regarding the subject of anonimity.
yes, i am making this post after being in the chat room with several others including kent and prisca.
it seemed to me that kent posted prisca's pic mainly out of sheer mischievousness and was quite taken aback at her very real distress at having her identity exposed.

It sickens me that I have been living this lie in the forum. OK, OK, my real name is Richard Murray. I knew this anonymity thing couldn't last forever. I just hope you're satisfied now Eman!

Where is "the Judge" buried?
by CatholicGuy inone of "judge" rutherford's last wishes was to be buried at his beloved "beth-sarim," the house that was built in san diego to house the "princes" that would rule the earth after armageddon.
the local authorities would not permit his burial there and the jws started quite a campaign in _consolation_ (later _awake!_) to have his wishes fulfilled.
witnesses even circulated petitions door to door (a lot of the "kingdom preaching" hours in 1942 was time spent circulating petitions to submit to authorities to allow the judge's burial at beth-sarim.

If Fred Franz said that Judge Rutherford was buried in Beth Sarim then he was buried in Istanbul. That's how accurate the information from Fred Franz has proven to be.
In reality, knowing how the society works, they probably hauled his sorry carcass over to the Meadowlands and buried him in the trunk of an old Oldsmobile.
